At approximately 8:20 a.m., the Oxford Police Department received notice of a potential threat to the safety of the Oxford Middle School. At that time the School Resource Officers notified school administration and placed the Oxford Middle School on lockdown while the threat’s credibility was investigated.

OPD worked with school administration to quickly determine that the threat was made outside of the Oxford School District. Once police determined the safety of the school to be intact the lock-down was lifted.

“The Oxford Police Department always takes the utmost care in carrying out this type of safety procedure in regards to the safety of both children and administrators in the school district,” stated a press release from OPD this morning.
