Fiery crash in Oxford kills 2 from Memphis

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a wreck Saturday morning that claimed the lives of two Memphis residents.

According to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy, the wreck occurred around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 7 and involved three vehicles. Two of the vehicles caught on fire.

The two victims were in the same car and were trapped in the burning vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Kennedy.

The identification of the two victims is being held pending autopsy results for positive identification.

The MHP could not be reached for comment or further wreck information as of Sunday evening.

It was the second deadly wreck in Oxford this weekend. On Friday night, Oxford resident Chris White was killed near Highway 6 and University Avenue when a transport vehicle collided with the driver’s side of White’s pickup.
