The Ole Miss women’s basketball team took a huge hit on Saturday as the school announced Shandricka Sessom will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
Sessom suffered the injury early in the Rebels’ win over Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday.
Having only played in seven games Sessom will redshirt and return for another senior season in 2018.
“Obviously, this is a tough blow for us and for Shandricka,” said Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell in a statement. “She’s a tremendous athlete and a wonderful person, and you hate to see something like this happen to someone with such promise. We’re going to be here for her during this tough time, and we’ll be excited to get her back next season healthy and ready to go.”
Sessom was named preaseason second team All-SEC and was averaging 17.7 points and ranks 24th all-time at Ole Miss with 1,131 career points.
The Rebels (6-1) host Arkansas State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
