David Edwin Cook, 82, died Dec. 5, 2017 at The Blake at Township in Ridgeland, Miss. The funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at Eagle Lake Funeral Home in Eagle Lake, Texas with burial following the service at Lakeside Cemetery.

Born in Houston, Texas, to the late Robert L. Cook, Sr. and Ada Thomas Cook, Dr. Cook attended the University of Texas where he received his Bachelors, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mathematics. He was retired from the Mathematics Department at the University of Mississippi where he taught for over 30 years.

Dr. Cook was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oxford, Miss. where he served as an elder, deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was active in the Lions Club, serving as president, Boy Scouts and the Pantry. Later in life he obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed learning to fly and joining the Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially going on cruises with his wife, Myrna. He cherished spending time each summer in Rockport, Texas with his extended family.

Dr. Cook was predeceased by his wife, Myrna Wesson Cook. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Mangum and her husband Todd of Madison, Miss.; a son, Wes Cook and his wife, Kelli of El Campo, Texas, and four grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Mangum of Madison, Miss., and Jared and Dylan Cook of El Campo, Texas.
