Patricia Peeples Covington Miller, known universally and affectionately as “Chip,” born on May 9, 1932 in Memphis, Tenn. and passed away on Dec. 10, 2017 at North Oak Regional Medical Center. A graduate of Ole Miss, Chip grew up and spent most of her life in the town of Coffeeville, Miss., where her life centered around her family and the Coffeeville United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member.

Chip was a serious student of the Bible which continuously brought enormous comfort to her as a Christian. She shared this comfort and knowledge in various ways, including teaching in the church to which she was so devoted.

Blessed with a beautiful voice, she shared that talent with her church, her community and with friends far and wide for special occasions. Content to be at home in her beloved Coffeeville, she never aspired to a professional career.

Chip was married on Feb. 14, 1954 to John Nelson “Johnny” Covington, Jr., and after a relatively short residence in his home area, they chose to live in Coffeeville where Johnny pursued a successful career in farming and related endeavors in addition to a real estate venture, in all of which Chip played a vital role.

Chip and Johnny had one child, John Nelson Covington III who survives her, along with his wife, Annabelle Brady Covington and three adored grandchildren, John Nelson Covington IV, Joshua Nathaniel Covington and Amanda Brady Covington. She is also survived by a sister, Flavia “Toots” Peeples Waddell; brother, Ralph Lawrence Peeples and his wife, Martha Ann; brother, Durrett Barnes Sayle Peeples; brother, Bradley Stuart Peeples and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Chip in death are her first husband, John Nelson Covington, Jr. who died in 1995 after forty-one years of marriage; second husband, Thomas Miller; her parents, Ralph Wagner and Elma Sayle Peeples; sister, Elaine Peeples Boyle; and a much loved aunt, Mildred Sayle Franklin, who played a very special role in her life.

Services will be held at the Coffeeville United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Coffeeville Cemetery.
