Ole Miss continued to address one of its biggest positions of need on the recruiting trail over the weekend.

Lee High (Alabama) linebacker Kevontae’ Ruggs committed to the Rebels on Sunday night, according to 247Sports.com. Ruggs’ verbal pledge came just hours after finishing his official visit on campus.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Ruggs, ranked a three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 30 outside linebacker prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings, chose Ole Miss over Texas A&M and Troy among others. He’s the younger brother of Alabama receiver Henry Ruggs III.

Ruggs is the fourth linebacker in the Rebels’ 2018 class, joining early signees Jonathan Hess, Jacquez Jones and Vernon Dasher. Ole Miss is losing leading tackler DeMarquis Gates at the position — the only linebacker who had more than 42 tackles this past season.

Ruggs is the 18th member of the class and Ole Miss’ first commitment since the end of the early signing period, which saw the Rebels ink 15 players. The traditional signing period begins Feb. 7.
