A hot start was negated by a cold finish and Ole Miss losing skid continued on Sunday. No. 17 Georgia defeated the Rebels 69-45 to hand them their seventh straight loss.

Ole Miss is now 1-7 in true road games this season.

Alissa Alston scored 18 points to lead the Rebels and tie with Georgia’s Caliya Robinson for a game-high. Shelby Gibson added 12 points as the only other player in double figures for Ole Miss.

Without their best scorer the Rebels (11-12, 1-9 Southeastern Conference) did the opposite of what they had been doing at the beginning of games, start fast. Shooting 52 percent (12-of-23) from the floor in the first two quarters gave Ole Miss a 30-28 lead at halftime.

The lopsided quarter woes continued for Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell — who dubbed his team the ‘best 32-minute team in the country’ — when his team came out of the locker room stone cold. The Rebels went seven-of-24 (29.2 percent) and were outscored by Georgia (20-3, 8-2) 41-15 in the second half.

The Bulldogs went 17-of-29 (58.6 percent) in the second half.

Georgia outscored Ole Miss 36-26 in the paint and the Bulldogs’ bench 19 points to the Rebels’ eight points.

Mackenzie Engram — sister of former Ole Miss tight end Evan — scored 17 points for the Bulldogs.

Muhammad injured

Madinah Muhammad did not make the trip to Athens, Georgia after sustaining a head injury against Vanderbilt last Thursday.

Muhammad cleared all tests after the game on Thursday night but woke up with a headache on Friday morning and was held out of Sunday’s game as a precaution. She is averaging 17.3 points per game.

Ole Miss stays on the road this week with a trip to College Station and No. 14 Texas A&M on Thursday at 7 p.m. (SECN+).
