Asked last month if serving as a television analyst would pique his interest, Andy Kennedy joked that he had “a face for radio.”

But Ole Miss’ former basketball coach is set to get his first crack at it.

Kennedy will join the SEC Network as part of its television coverage for the league tournament, the EAGLE has learned. Kennedy resigned Feb. 18 amid Ole Miss’ first losing season since 2006.

The tournament’s first round begins today with Georgia taking on Vanderbilt at 6 p.m. at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Ole Miss, the tournament’s lowest seed after finishing with the worst record in SEC play during the regular season, will play South Carolina approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The Rebels (12-19) beat South Carolina (16-15) in the teams’ only regular-season matchup in Oxford on New Year’s Eve.

The single-elimination tournament will conclude with the championship game Sunday.

The dean of SEC coaches before stepping down, Kennedy should provide fans with plenty of insight and analysis with 13 years worth of head coaching experience — the last 12 at Ole Miss. The Rebels won at least 20 games in nine of those seasons and made eight postseason appearances, including a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament, under Kennedy, who finished at the school’s all-time winningest coach.

The network officially announced Kennedy’s addition as a guest analyst for the tournament later Wednesday afternoon.
