Horace Bryant “Junior” Lyons

Dr. Horace Bryant “Junior” Lyons, 50, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his home in Oxford. Visitation will be Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home. Rev. Casey Coston will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Lyons was born in Houston, Texas. Throughout his life, Dr. Lyons received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a masters degree in sociology, and a doctorate degree in criminology. Dr. Lyons was professor who was passionate about encouraging others in their education and mentoring others to be the best they could be.

Dr. Lyons leaves behind his wife, Julie Lyons of Oxford; two sons, Samuel Lyons of St. Louis, Mo., and Joseph Lyons, of Oxford; one daughter, Jessica Lyons of Oxford; five brothers, Robert (Gloretha) Lyons, John Elder (Venus) Lyons, Louis Lyons, Eugene Lyons and Ivary (Cassandra) Lyons, all of Houston; two sisters, Scharron Florence and Eltee Lyons, both of Houston; one honorary grandson, Immanuel Zuppardo of Oxford, and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Dr. Lyons was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Westmoreland; one nephew, Scott Lyons and his best friend, Eric Williams.
