Sammie Carothers Sutherland, 85, of Water Valley died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born June 27, 1932 in Lafayette County, and worked for several years at Big Yank Industries before retiring from Glenn Slacks. Sammie was a member of Mt. Liberty Church in Calhoun County, and enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Funeral services followed the visitation in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Sammie is survived by her daughter, Cindy Dickey (Ronnie) of Water Valley; her son, Tim Sutherland (Vickie) of Pittsboro, Miss.; four grandchildren, Lacey Caine, Robert Samuel Sutherland, Elizabeth Keel and Dillon Dickey; and four great-grandchildren, Georgia Caine, Ian Caine, Charlsy Sutherland and Katy Sutherland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Arthur and Cubelle Tatum Carothers; her husband, Toy Junior Sutherland; and her twin sister, Cubelle Majure.
