Three-star forward Blake Hinson commits to Ole Miss basketball

Ole Miss picked up a commitment from one of its top targets Saturday.

Sunrise Christian Academy (Wichita, Kansas) forward Blake Hinson verbally committed to the Rebels, announcing his decision with a post to his Twitter account. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Hinson chose Ole Miss over offers from Missouri, Clemson, Florida State and Washington among others.

Hinson, a three-star prospect rated as the top player in Kansas and the nation’s No. 134 player in the 247Sports.com composite rankings, visited Ole Miss earlier this month after Kermit Davis was hired as Andy Kennedy’s replacement. He’s the second commitment for Ole Miss in four days after Georgia forward KJ Buffen gave his verbal pledge to the Rebels on Wednesday.

Hinson and Buffen fill a need given that Ole Miss is losing two frontcourt contributors in Marcanvis Hymon and Justas Furmanavicius to graduation. Signee Zach Naylor could also help at forward while junior college signee Brian Halums projects as a wing.

Hinson’s pledge leaves Ole Miss with two available scholarships for the 2018 class. Upson-Lee (Thomaston, Georgia) three-star guard Tye Fagan, another target who also has Georgia, Xavier and Middle Tennessee State among his finalists, is scheduled to announce his commitment Monday.
