Promise Taylor is switching sides.

Taylor, a former Ole Miss women’s basketball player, is transferring to Mississippi State. Taylor tweeted Monday night she had signed with the Rebels’ in-state rival. She’ll have to sit out next season to fulfill SEC transfer rules.

Rated by Prospects Nation as a top-150 recruit coming out of high school, the 6-foot-5 Taylor played in 31 games with 13 starts this past season, earning freshman All-SEC honors after averaging 8.3 points, six rebounds and 2.6 blocks to serve as a bright spot on a team that finished last in the SEC with one league win.

Taylor is joining a Mississippi State team that’s become one of the nation’s best under Vic Schaefer, finishing as the national runner-up each of the last two seasons. The Bulldogs put together an undefeated regular season — just the second ever in SEC women’s hoops — before falling to Notre Dame in the national championship game.

Taylor transferred after coach Matt Insell agreed to part ways with Ole Miss in March after a five-year stint. Ole Miss hired former Jacksonville coach Yolanda McPhee-McCuin in April.

Four other players have left since the coaching change, including leading scorer Madinah Muhammad.
