Ethel Mae Burke Cook

Ethel Mae Burke Cook, 83, died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Grenada Living Center in Grenada.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry L. Burke officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A native of Lafayette County, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Irene Tidwell Burke.   Ethel grew up in the Taylor community and Chicago, Illinois.

She resided in Memphis and Collierville, Tennessee until she moved back to Oxford in 1975 and resided until 2003.

Ethel was a member of the Oxford Church of the Nazarene. She served as a foster grandparent at the North Mississippi Regional Center for many years and loved working with the children.

Ethel was a very talented seamstress and loved sewing as well as painting ceramics.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Cook; a brother, Gene Burke; and a grandson, Steve Hipp.

Ethel is survived by two daughters, Sandra Kay Hipp and her husband, Danny of Oxford; Cindy Dunn of Booneville, Mississippi; her son Kenneth Leon Cook and his wife, Eva of Southaven, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Cook’s memory may be made to the Pine Flat Cemetery Fund, c/o of Kenny Tidwell, 40 CR 422, Water Valley, MS 38965.
