Opal Huckaby McCain

Opal Huckaby McCain, 91 of Water Valley, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

She was born Feb. 27, 1927 to Egbert and Mattie Trammel Huckaby in Lafayette County.

Opal lived in Water Valley for the past 51 years, making her home on her beloved Market Street where she and her late husband, Floyd McCain, were active in welcoming new neighbors and seeing friends off when they moved away.

She was a member of Tula Baptist Church and worked as a utility operator for Big Yank Corporation until she retired in 1991.

Opal celebrated life each day with humor and welcomed anyone entering her home as a friend.

Her hobbies were cooking, sewing, gardening, cultivating friendships and giving the best advice ever!

Opal loved talking on the phone, using it to keep her family connected by talking to each one daily and keeping them abreast of what the others were doing.  She was truly the hands of Jesus as she cared for and ministered to family, friends and anyone in need.

Services are planned for 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Freeman officiating.  Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Wednesday. The burial will follow the service at Webb Cemetery in Lafayette County with Mike Brown, Billy Pearce, Stacy Barbee, Parker Brown, Preston Hooker, Pearce Price, Chris Hillhouse and Brooks Hillhouse serving as pallbearers.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Barbara Brown (Dexter) of Water Valley; two sons, Loyd Hillhouse (Brenda) of Oxford, and Danny Hillhouse (Janie) of Pontotoc; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Winford Loyd Hillhouse; her second husband, James Floyd McCain, Sr.; four daughters, Linda Babb, Barbara Barbee, Faye King and Jo Pearce; four sisters, Nona Thompson, Odell Nabors, Mary Shepherd and Lorene Wright, and her brother, Emit Huckaby.
