A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for Molly Wray, a former Lafayette High School teacher under investigation for inappropriate conduct with a student.

The hearing will take place on Monday, July 16 at 2 p.m., with Judge John A. Gregory presiding.

When allegations of misconduct are brought against a figure of authority, such as a teacher or law enforcement officer, a probable cause hearing is necessary to issue a warrant.

As its name implies, the hearing is used to determine if adequate probable cause exists for the issuance of a warrant. During the hearing, law enforcement officers will present evidence to the judge. If the evidence is sufficient, Wray will be formally arrested.

Wray has been under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation since June 4. The investigation began when the Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from Lafayette County School District Superintendent Adam Pugh regarding reports of improper conduct between a teacher and a student, according to a statement released by the department.

On June 11, an affidavit was filed against Wray, charging her with Enticement of a Child to Meet for Sexual Purposes. Wray taught math at LHS, but has since resigned.
