One of Mississippi’s top recruits is switching sides in the Egg Bowl rivalry.

Sumrall High receiver Dannis Jackson flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Ole Miss on Monday night, announcing the move with a post to his Twitter account. Jackson, who took a visit to Ole Miss last week, had been committed to the Bulldogs since June 22.

“The recruitment process has not always been as easy as I once thought,” part of Jackson’s post read. “And I know many won’t understand, but at the end of the day I have to do what’s best for me and follow my heart.”

Jackson, a consensus four-star prospect, is ranked the nation’s No. 19 receiver and the No. 7 prospect in Mississippi in the 247Sports.com composite ratings. He’s the 25th commitment in the Rebels’ 2019 recruiting class and the second commitment of the day, joining local product Eric Jeffries.

With Monday’s commitments, Ole Miss’ class moved to No. 13 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC in the 247Sports composite.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Jackson, who also held offers from LSU, Auburn, Oregon and Tennessee among others, caught 63 passes for 1,157 yards and 11 touchdowns last season as a junior. He said he will also play baseball at Ole Miss.
