Pair of four-star prospects join Ole Miss’ 2019 recruiting class

Ole Miss’ momentum on the recruiting trail continued Tuesday with two four-star commits.

Brandon High receiver Jonathan Mingo and Jonesboro High (Arkansas) offensive tackle Darius Thomas announced their commitments to the Rebels with posts to their respective Twitter accounts. Mingo, who chose Ole Miss over offers from Mississippi State, Georgia, Auburn and Notre Dame among others, and Thomas, whose offer list also included Arkansas, Texas and Georgia, made it four verbal pledges in two days for the Rebels after Lafayette linebacker Eric Jeffries and Sumrall receiver Dannis Jackson, a former Mississippi State commitment, joined the 2019 class Monday.

Ole Miss now has 27 commitments in the class, which ranks 11th nationally and fifth in the SEC in 247Sports.com’s composite ratings with the additions of Mingo and Thomas. That leaves some work for Ole Miss to do with the scholarship numbers with teams capped at 25 signees each recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Mingo is a four-star prospect ranked as the nation’s No. 38 receiver and the No. 12 recruit in Mississippi in the 247Sports composite. He’s the fourth receiver in the class, a position that could see the Rebels lose all three starters — senior DaMarkus Lodge, junior A.J. Brown and Oxford native DK Metcalf, a draft-eligible sophomore — after this season.

Thomas’ pledge also comes at position of potential need with projected first-round pick Greg Little likely beginning his last season with the Rebels. The 6-6, 340-pounder is ranked the No. 31 tackle in the country and Arkansas’ No. 5 recruit in the 247Sports composite.
