Kenny Glenn Coleman, Sr.

Mr. Kenny Glenn Coleman, Sr., 67, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his residence in Carroll County, Miss. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug, 5, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home (601 Commerce Parkway, Oxford, MS). A memorial service will take place on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Oxford Church of Christ (409 North Lamar Blvd., Oxford). Interment will follow at the Pine Bluff Church of Christ Cemetery.

Bro. Lendy Bartlett will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coleman was born in Lafayette County, on Oct. 24, 1950. He was the second of six children, born to a family of sharecroppers. Mr. Coleman grew up chopping and picking cotton. Mr. Coleman graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in pharmacy in 1973.

After graduation, Mr. Coleman worked as a pharmacist in Batesville, then moved to Senatobia before opening his own pharmacy in Tunica in the 1970s. He raised his family in Tunica before moving back to Oxford in the early 1980s. Upon moving back, he purchased a building on South Lamar Avenue and opened Coleman’s Healthmart Pharmacy, a business he owned for over 20 years, before selling to Super D Drugs.

Also during his time in Oxford, he was an avid farmer and enjoyed working with his cattle, something he took pride in for over 20 years. He raised Registered Angus Cattle. After selling his pharmacy, he opened Coleman Funeral Home with his son, Glenn, on Highway 7 North.

Mr. Coleman served as an Elder in the Oxford Church of Christ for 10 years.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his daughters, Kristi (Rowe) Brookfield of Jackson, Tenn., and Keri Jo Finnie of Oxford; son, Glenn (Nichole) Coleman of Oxford; grandchildren, Kennedy Brookfield and Brad Brookfield of Jackson, Mary-Massey Perkins and Gage Perkins of Oxford, and Sarah-Kay Coleman of Oxford; former wife, Kay Coleman of Oxford; brothers, Ray (Shirley) Coleman of Oxford, John (Sandra) Coleman, Jr., of Southaven, Miss., Tony (Barbara) Coleman of Oxford, and Sid (Vicki) Coleman of Oxford; sister, Mary (Bill) Freeman of Senatobia; aunts, Irene Pipkin of Hickory Flatt, Miss., and Hilda Carlock of Nesbit, Miss.; uncle, Horace Coleman of Nesbit and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, John Roland, Sr., and Juanita Coleman.
