Funeral services for David Franklin Broome, 61, of Phoenix, Ariz. will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church in Oxford, under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni, Miss.  The Rev. Curt Presley will officiate.  Family visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

David is survived by his sister, Sherry Broome Williams and her husband, Bruce;  nieces Lindsey Williams Sartori and Ella Grace Williams; great nieces Taylor and Julia Sartori; and great-nephews Dagan and Jonah Garrett, all of Shreveport, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Ledsinger Broome and Harold A. Broome.  He passed after visits from family, close friends and clergy at his bedside.

A 1981 graduate of Ole Miss in Banking and Finance, for the past nine years David served as a Sr. Contract Surety Executive for NFP Property & Casuality Services in Glendale, Ariz.  Highly successful, he became one of the companies top five writers nationwide in only 18 months. His career included Account and Senior Surety Underwriter positions for some of the nation’s leading surety companies in Philadelphia, Pa., Tampa, Fla. and Tulsa, Okla.

In college David was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity; the Order of Omega, a greek inter-fraternity leadership organization; Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership society; Phi Eta Sigma, a scholastic honorary and a member of National Dean’s list.  He also was Chairman of the University of Mississippi Program Council and played both college and intramural football for two-years.

David grew up in Clarksdale, Miss. and graduated from Lee Academy where he starred at wide receiver for the Lee Colts football team, earning All-Conference honors under the coaching and tutelage of Head Coach Nick Clark.

David was known, and will always be remembered, for his quick-wit and inventive, contagious style of humor that made life lighter and more enjoyable for all who were blessed to know and call him a friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
