Era Black

Ms. Era Black, 96, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, from 9 to 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (113 South 9th Street, Oxford). A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., also at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Tupelo Memorial Gardens in Tupelo, Miss. Bro. Jody Burnett will officiate.

Ms. Black was born in December 1921 in Rainsville, Ala. She spent most of her time being a homemaker to her loving family. Ms. Black received her college degree at the age of 60. Ms. Black served her country as a mechanic during WWII and was also nicknamed “Rosie” after Rosie the Riveter.

Ms. Black leaves behind her daughter, Melinda (James) Trapp of Oxford; two sons, Lee Black of Mansfield, Texas and Jimmy Black of Franklinton, La.; one sister, Virginia Helton of Rainsville; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven great, great-grandchildren.

Ms. Black was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Black; her parents, Grover and Mallie Jones; and one sister, Eva Meyers.
