WATCH: 157 players assessed personal fouls during the 2018 Egg Bowl

Well, we know these two teams don’t really like each other, but things got a little excessive during the 2018 Egg Bowl.

At the end of the third quarter, Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown caught a pass and rolled 41 yards to the end zone for an apparent score. However, the action didn’t stop there.

A scuffle broke out in the end zone, and both benches cleared.

There is a history of bad blood between these two arch rivals, and it peaked here. But that wasn’t the end of it, as every player was assessed a personal foul. No, seriously.

Four players – Jamal Peters, Cameron Dantzler and Willie Gay Jr. for Mississippi State, and C.J. Moore for Ole Miss – got ejected from the game. Those Mississippi State players who were ejected will have to sit out the first half of their bowl game. Those penalties didn’t count towards the game, as they all offset against each other.

At the time, Mississippi State led 28-3 and had a stranglehold over the Rebels. Quarterbacks Jordan Ta’amu and Matt Corral had both played, and Ta’amu would not return at all in the second half.

The most ironic part of this scuffle? The referees ruled that Ole Miss didn’t get the play off before the quarter ended, therefore all the players technically were penalized over nothing.
