In a day where their leading scorer was far from special, Ole Miss got major contributions from a junior in disguise, beating Baylor in Destin, Florida by a score of 78-70.

Ole Miss got off to a red-hot start against the Bears, using an 18-3 run to create a sizeable lead early. The defense from the start forced Baylor to play fast and uncomfortable. After the slow start, Baylor switched from man to a full-court, matchup zone look.

The Baylor zone slowed the Ole Miss offense, compelling them to settle for bad, outside shots. Ole Miss’ typical ball movement slowed, allowing the Bears to crawl back into the game. They only trailed 43-39 at the half.

Teams traded baskets for most of the second half, but Ole Miss led by a handful of points at all times. They only trailed for 32-seconds the entire game. The Rebels would switch to their own zone down the stretch in the second half to secure the lead. When the final buzzer sounded, Ole Miss had won 78-70.

Terence Davis was far from himself on the night. His play seemed erratic, and downright out of control at times. He had to sit a decent chunk of the second half with four fouls. For a man that had led the team in scoring each of the team’s first three games, Davis shot only 2-11 from the field scoring just 7 points.

Davis’ load was picked up offensively by Breein Tyree. Playing with number 21 instead of his usual 5 due to an equipment mix-up, Ole Miss needed every one of his career high 28 points. Tyree shot 6-11 from the field and made 13-17 free throw attempts. He also chipped in with 3 assists and 2 rebounds.

For the second game in a row, Ole Miss did a very good job defending the three-point line. The Rebels held a Baylor team that was averaging nine made threes a game to 2-17 behind the arc.

Ole Miss will take on 4-1 Cincinnati in the championship game of the Emerald Coast Classic tomorrow evening at 6:15 p.m. CT on CBSSN. Cincinnati beat George Mason 71-55 earlier on Friday.
