The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved the request for a speed bump going into the entrance boulevard of Oxmoor Place on Monday morning.

Board President Jeff Busby pointed out during the meeting there has be increased traffic in the area due to construction stemming from a new subdivision, which brought about the necessity for the speed bump.

The motion passed unanimously, and was one of only two items passed during the meeting.

On the agenda, the board was scheduled to discuss the appointment of members to the Arena Advisory Committee, which would oversee the Lafayette County Business Center and Multi-Purpose Arena.

However, the supervisors weren’t ready to discuss the appointment.

The supervisors originally discussed the committee on November 18, and talked about the possibility of having county supervisors serving on the board.

The county supervisors would also have the power to abolish the commission if they saw fit.

During that same meeting, representatives from the construction site said the business center and arena was around 65 percent complete. It was described at 35 percent complete on August 7, and broke ground in April 2018.

It was estimated the center had 210 days of construction remaining on November 18.

The only other part of the county supervisor’s agenda that passed was the approval for the purchase of a vehicle for the MS Forestry Commission for Emergency Management.

The vehicle would provide travel for the commission, after it received in-vehicle radios and a paint job.
