MaxPreps released their 2018 High School Football All-American Team on Thursday, a roster highlighted by a plethora of seniors and one pleasant surprise for Ole Miss fans: quarterback Grant Tisdale.

A three-star, dual-threat quarterback recruit by 247Sports, Tisdale signed his letter of intent to Ole Miss back on early signing day, Dec. 19. The Allen, Texas product was the no. 386 ranked recruit, independent of position. Now he’s an All-American. Named to the All-American second team by MaxPreps, he is the only Rebel signee on the list.

New Ole Miss offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez loves having a quarterback that can run. His two most electric quarterbacks, Pat White at West Virginia and Khalil Tate at Arizona, both had seasons with over 1400 rushing yards under Rodriguez.

Tisdale can fit right into that dual-threat mode. The 2018 season was the second straight one in which he threw for at least 2,000 yards and rushed for 1,000 or more. His senior year, Tisdale threw for 2,466 yards and 33 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 70-percent. He also rushed for 1,214 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground his senior year.

It’s unlikely that Tisdale will see much playing time for Ole Miss anytime soon, as incumbent Matt Corral seems to have the starting gig wrapped up at this point. However, Tisdale should be capable of competing and winning the backup job for 2019.
