The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved the proposal for crossing guards Tuesday evening, taking some pressure off Oxford Police to safe guard all the newly annexed areas as children head to school.

OPD Chief Joey East presented the proposal for Wood Security to provide the crossing guards, and the Aldermen approved the proposal unanimously.

OPD did not say where these crossing guards will be positioned, however Chief East did say their primary purpose will be to help in directing school traffic.

According to documents on the meeting’s agenda, Woods Security would be paid $210.00 per 12 hour day and guards would be paid $35 per two hour assignments.

The guard would be responsible for directing car traffic and foot traffic as needed, and are required for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon minimum.

Wood Security, which has offices in both Clarksdale and Oxford, has been providing security services throughout the Mississippi Delta for over 30 years, according to the security firm’s website.
