Obituary – Verlia Mae Mitchell Jones

Verlia Mae Mitchell Jones, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. The funeral service will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. The visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until service time.

Born in Vance, Mississippi to the late W. Burris and Elizabeth Ann McCain Mitchell, Mrs. Jones was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church where she had taught Mission Friends (Sunbeams), Primary Sunday School, and was a Youth Department Training Union Leader. A full-time homemaker, Mrs. Jones served her community as an Oxford-Lafayette County poll worker. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Lee Jones, Sr., and brother, Charles Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Dale Jones Boatright and her husband, Thomas F. “Tommy” Jones of Oxford, Mississippi; son, Hubert Lee Jones, Jr., and his wife, Marilyn of Guntown, Mississippi; sister, Barbara Mitchell Appleton of Oxford; three grandchildren, Beth Boatright Kilgore and her husband, D. Joseph of Philadelphia, Mississippi, Dr. Benjamin Thomas Boatright and his wife, Dr. Courtney of Amory, Mississippi, and Justin Lee Jones and his wife, Hilary of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and five great grandchildren, Anna Beth Kilgore, Joseph Reed Kilgore, Abram Thomas Boatright, Pierce Carter Boatright and Cameron Lee Jones.
