Ole Miss women’s tennis picked to finish 5th in SEC

The Ole Miss women’s tennis team has been selected to finish 5th in the Coaches’ Preseason Poll, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

Georgia, who finished with a 18-7 record last season and has 32 consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships, was picked to take home the title. The Bulldogs currently rank 5thin Oracle ITA Rankings.

The Rebels tallied 131 total points in the poll, finishing behind the Bulldogs, national runner-ups Vanderbilt, Florida and South Carolina. The Gators sit one notch ahead of Ole Miss in the ITA Rankings at 11, while South Carolina is at No. 14.

Ole Miss went 22-7 last season with a 9-4 league ledger, and returns seven Rebels from its 2018 postseason squad, including All-American Alexa Bortles and All-SEC selections Tea Jandric, Sabina Machalova, and Anna Vrbenska.

The Rebels begin league action March 1, traveling to Gainesville to take on Florida.

Ole Miss begins its 2019 home schedule January 26-27. The Rebels play Purdue on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will play either No. 9 Michigan or No. 24 Syracuse on Sunday for the ITA Kick-Off.
