COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ole Miss put together another hard-fought first half, but No. 12 South Carolina ended the third quarter on a 15-0 run to separate as the Rebels fell, 76-42, to the Gamecocks on Thursday night.

South Carolina forced an Ole Miss season-high 23 turnovers while shutting down what was a solid Rebel offense in the first half to just 19 percent in the back half.

The game got off to a slow start, with both teams being held scoreless for the first 3:42 of action. During this stretch, Ole Miss held South Carolina 0-of-6 from the field. The pace of play picked up for the remainder of the quarter, and the Gamecocks took a 17-11 lead after the first ten minutes of action.

The teams traded buckets early in the second quarter, before South Carolina went on a quick 8-0 run to take a 35-23 lead with 2:10 left in the half. Senior La’Karis Salter (nine points, three rebounds) broke the run with a three-pointer, and each team hit a free throw in the final minute of play, giving South Carolina a 36-27 lead at the end of the first half.

South Carolina (17-5, 9-1 SEC) closed the game at the end of the third quarter, as they went on a 15-0 run over the final 5:08 of the frame. This gave them a 57-32 lead, and they never looked back. The Gamecocks outscored the Rebels 19-10 in the fourth quarter, ending the night with a 76-42 victory.

After being held without a field goal for the first time in her Ole Miss career on Sunday, senior Crystal Allen responded well. She scored a team-high 13 points, which marked the 20th time in 24 games that she has led the Rebels in scoring this season.

Fellow senior Shandricka Sessom also played well for the Rebels. She scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. She has had at least four rebounds in 22 of 23 games played, and she’s scored in double digits in five of her last six games.

Ole Miss (8-16, 2-8 SEC) has a bye this weekend, so it will return to action next Thursday night vs. Vanderbilt (6-16, 1-8 SEC) at home. The two teams met in Nashville earlier this season, resulting in an 80-68 victory for the Commodores.
