The City of Oxford is set to play a prominent role in the upcoming filming of a new NBC television project. After being announced last month that the new show ‘Bluff City Law’ was set to film part of their pilot episode in Oxford during March 11-13, the city and county officials officially approved requests to use their facilities this week.  

During the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday they approved the use of the Lafayette County Courthouse as a backdrop for the show. The agreement with NBC/Universial is to allow filming inside the Courthouse and they had to pay a $1,000 fee to use the building. 

On Tuesday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved a request by Universal Television to use the Oxford Conference Center as a non-filming location to house their trailers and other equipment to be using during their stay in Oxford. The city charged $1,500 for the use of the conference center.  

The board also approved a request for the use of off-duty officers provided by the Oxford Police Department and the use of parking spaces on the Square from City Hall down to Neilson’s as well as lots behind City Hall for trailers.  

Next week is Spring Break for both Oxford and Lafayette High Schools and Ole Miss, making it a usually slow week, but with the scheduled filming and the need for 120 hotel rooms it set to provide a boost to the city’s economy.

“I think we’ll have a real positive economic impact on our businesses, restaurants and the community,” Oxford mayor Robyn Tannehill said during Tuesday’s meeting. 

The show centers around a father-daughter legal team that takes on the toughest civil rights cases and is based in Memphis. It will star Jimmy Smits and Caitlyn McGee.
