Obituary – Anita Ann Brown

Anita Ann Brown, 55, of Winona, Mississippi, passed from this world on  Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in Jackson at UMMC comforted by her family members.  A Winona native, she belonged to the Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.  Born in Winona on August 4, 1963, to Terry and Joan Grice Brown, Anita is survived by her father, WT, of Stewart, Mississippi; and three brothers, Terry (Midge) of Greenwood, Mississippi, Jim (Meliesa) of Stewart, and Pat (Ginger) of Oxford, Mississippi; nieces, Morgan Maddox, Alex Morton, Katherine Ann Brown and Virginia Brown; nephews, Will Brown, Scott Brown and Edward Brown; great nephews, Thomas Howard Morton, Kellan Morton, Paxton Maddox, Pace Maddox; and great nieces, Carrigan Morton and Lila Morton.  Anita’s mother, Joan, and brother, Ryan, predeceased her.  

Serving as a social worker, Anita worked with the MDHS Child Protection Services as an adoption specialist for the past eighteen years.  She greatly cared for the children for whom she served.  

Anita graduated Winona Academy high school in 1981, Wood College, and the University of Mississippi in 1987, with a BS in social work.  She enjoyed collecting jewelry and purses, and especially loved her dogs and cats.  

Visitation is Saturday, March 9, from 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona with Rev. John Kramer and Rev. Linda Malone officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona.  Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Brown, Jim Brown, Pat Brown, Will Brown, Scott Brown, Edward Brown, Kip Brown, and Heath Grice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moore Memorial UMC, 201 Magnolia Street, or Winona Academy, 1014 S Applegate Street, both in Winona MS 38967.
