Sheriff’s office releases names involved in murder-suicide

The names of the two people involved in the murder-suicide that occurred on March 18 have been released by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s office. 

Tanya Denise Mathis, 42, and Anthony Patrick Hampton, 43, were found dead by Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies when they arrived to the scene after responding to a domestic disturbance call. The call came around 9 p.m. on Monday and deputies went to the 100 block on County Road 147. 

Upon further investigation by the Sheriff’s office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations it was determined the incident resulted in a murder-suicide by a firearm. Autopsy results by county coroner Rocky Kennedy showed Mathis and Hampton each died from a single gunshot wound.

The home where both were found by deputies belonged to someone in Hampton’s family.
