Lafayette only needed two games to secure their spot in the 5A playoff quarterfinals.

The Commodores took down Center Hill 7-3 at home on Friday night and 12-3 on the road Saturday to lock up a berth to their first 5A quarterfinal series.

Zach Meagrow provided a great night of long relief out of the Lafayette bullpen to steal game one from Center Hill. The Commodores got all seven of their runs in two big innings in game one. Hunter Coleman led the way offensively for Lafayette, driving in two runs with a first-inning double and then hitting a solo home run later in the game.

In game two, Foster Westbrook was dominant on the mound as the Commodore bats were also flying. Westbrook threw five innings, allowing just two hits in the game. Offensively, Tyrus Williams went 3 for 4 on the day, collecting a double, triple and three RBIs. Overall, it was a balanced game offensively as seven different Commodores drove in at least one run.

Ridgeland got to the quarterfinals in similar fashion. They also swept their second-round matchup, Olive Branch, but did so in much closer games. They won 3-2 on Friday and 9-8 on Saturday.

Lafayette (16-9-1) and Ridgeland (18-11) have not played yet this year and have faced no common opponents.

Game one of the quarterfinal series will take place at Ridgeland Thursday night. Game two will be at home for Lafayette on Friday night. If necessary, game three will take place Saturday at Ridgeland. All games are at 7 p.m.
