Obituary – Mary Katherine Davis

Mrs. Mary Katherine Davis, 94, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at her home in Oxford, Mississippi. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 2 p.m. in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, with Rev. Rhesa Davis, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. The visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. until service time in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home.

 

Born in Macon, Mississippi, to the late William Burr and Beatrice McLemore Cockrell, Katherine graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. and Art Instruction School where she studied drafting and earned an apprenticeship with the Department of the Navy drafting navigation charts. She liked drawing house plans and painting. Some of her favorite things were music, funny stories and happy endings. Katherine was a member of First Baptist Church in Oxford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Ellzey in 1976, and her second husband, Rhesa Davis in 2008, and by a son, Jimmy Wayne Ellzey in 1970.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Jean Renee Havens of Horn Lake, Mississippi, and Bonnie Baker and her husband, Paul, of Lake Cormorant, Mississippi; son, Byron Ellzey of Oxford; grandchildren, Dean Tindall, Damen Tindall, Darrel Tindall, Sarah Havens and Adrianna Meraz; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
