The Rotary Club of Oxford-Ole Miss will host their 8th annual Tunes & Tails Crawfish Boil on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Old Armory Pavilion in Oxford.

Each year, the rotary club selects a philanthropy to support through the event, and this year, proceeds will go to CASA of Lafayette County. CASA, which stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates, is a program that allows volunteers age 21 or over to act as a constant support system for children going through the court system on their own. It costs $1,000 to train a CASA volunteer, and each volunteer is paired with one child for the duration of court proceedings.

“CASA, in particular, seemed like something you might not see every day,” Tom Speed, committee chair, said. “We chose CASA because it’s not something at the forefront of people’s minds. It’s not something you’re aware of unless you’re in a courtroom.”

In the past, the Tunes & Tails event has benefitted More than a Meal, the Literacy Council, Doors of Hope, Holding Hands Resale and more charitable organizations in the LOU Community.

The family friendly event will feature crawfish, beer, soft drinks and live music from Tate Moore and the Cosmic Door. Kids activities such as a bounce house will be available, and Uno Mas taco truck will also be available for those who are mudbug averse. Oxsicles will also be available for guests to cool off after their meal.

“The Rotary Club motto is ‘Service before Self,’ and we couldn’t think of a cause that better fits that than Lafayette CASA,” Speed said. “We want to give credit to Erin Smith, head of Lafayette County CASA, for recognizing that need.”

Speed estimated that the event will raise approximately $3,000 for the philanthropy. This year, event poster art will also be sold in limited amounts Sponsorships cost as little as $250, which includes two tickets and two bottomless cups.

Tickets are $25 in advance, available from any Rotarian or on the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council website, and $30 at the door. Included in the ticket price is all-you-can-eat crawfish. For $15 more, guests can get bottomless beer refills. Children age 12 and under are free.
