Obituary – Lowrey Windell Busby

Lowrey Windell Busby, 79, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at his home in Oxford, Miss. The funeral service was held Monday, June 17, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. David Ard and Rev. Charles Lipe officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. The visitation was held prior to the service from 11 a.m. until service time in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home.

 

Born in Oxford to the late, W. L. and Wanna Bland Busby, Windell was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Everyone who knew Windell knew his strength of character. He worked with his father for several years as a carpenter and then retired, after 25 years of service, from the University of MS Physical Plant as a Carpenter Foreman. In his spare time, he enjoyed raising cattle and was also an avid hunter. Windell was a devoted husband and father who loved his home, wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn R. Busby, of Oxford; daughters, Pam Busby McNeely (Jim), of Oxford, Donna Busby Oliphant (Lloyd), of Oxford, and Kim Busby Cauthen (Dusty), of Natchez, Miss.; sister, LaRhonda Busby Harris (Freddie), of Oxford; brother, Jarvis Busby (Mary Alice), of Oxford, Wilbourn Busby (Dorothy), of Oxford, and Dewayne Busby (Melba), of Oxford; grandchildren, Ben McNeely, of Oxford, Kacey McNeely Edwards, of Canton, Miss., Tanner Marquis, of Raleigh, N.C., John Peyton Marquis, of Oxford, Sydney Cauthen, of Natchez, Miss., and Conner Cauthen, of Natchez; and great grandchildren, Alice McNeely, of Jonesboro, Ark., Hartley Edwards, of Kosciusko, Miss., Neely Edwards, of Canton, and Luke Edwards, of Canton.
