The Ole Miss golf team is having themselves quite a week.

A trio of Rebels from the women’s team were named Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholars on Monday. Additionally, two from the men’s golf team finished top-10 in a Georgia Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

Ole Miss’ Ellen Hutchinson-Kay, Pi-Lillebi Hermansson -Kay and Macy Somoskey were three of 1,097 collegiate women’s golfers recognized as All-America Scholars. To qualify, one must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.50.

A rising senior studying psychology, Hermansson has been named an All-American Scholar each of her three years on campus. For Hutchinson-Kay and Somoskey, they earned the award for the first time – but they were freshman. Each played big roles in the Ole Miss team who made their second straight NCAA Championships.

On the men’s side, Thomas Hogan and Sarut Vongchaisit put together a handful of strong rounds over July 4th weekend playing in the 2019 Golden Isles Invitational. Both coming from Frederica Academy in Georgia, the pair were playing at Brunswick Country Club in Brunswick, Georgia.

Hogan placed fifth in the invitational with Vongchaisit finishing 8th, fantastic showings in a field of 119 golfers. Hogan’s -13 on the weekend placed him eight shots behind runaway leader Eli Scott. Vongchaisit finished just four strokes behind Hogan at -9. Both were two of just 29 golfers to finish the tournament under par.

Now Hogan, a redshirt freshman for Ole Miss, isn’t exactly a stranger to this even to Brunswick Country Club. Hogan won the event back in 2017 and his father, Dan, is the general manager at the club.

Both the Ole Miss men’s and women’s golf season, as a team, get under way in September.
