Oxford and Lafayette will be squaring off on the football field Friday night in the annual Crosstown Classic, but they will be competing off the field as well.

The annual Crosstown Classic United Way Challenge starts on Friday, with both schools vying to see who can raise the most money for the United Way of Oxford-Lafayette County.

Through unique donation pages for each school, students and families can donate as much as they want, through 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 18.

Entering its fourth year, Oxford holds a 2-1 advantage over Lafayette after winning the 2018 challenge, taking home the silver trophy.

“The Crosstown Classic United Way Challenge provides a great opportunity to partner with our friends at Oxford School District and Lafayette County School District to advance health, education and financial stability within our community, said Kurt Brummett, executive director of UWOLC. “Whether someone donates in support of the Chargers or Commodores, every contribution will make a meaningful difference, as no donation is too small to produce a positive impact.”

Supporters for Oxford can donate online at unitedwayoxfordms.org/chargers. Charger fans can also donate via text by sending CHARGERS to 40403 and then clicking on the link they will receive to complete their donation.

For Lafayette Commodores fans, visit unitedwayoxfordms.org/dores or text DORES to 40403 and follow the same instructions.

Lafayette (3-0) hosts Oxford (2-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
