Obituary – Lindsay Elizabeth Gillenwater

Lindsay Elizabeth Gillenwater, 34, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at her home in Albuquerque, N.M. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at 4 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Jennifer Southall and Reverend Warren Black officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the church.  Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Lexington, Ky., Lindsay was a 2003 graduate of Oxford High School and a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She was active in the youth group, served as a peer counselor at OHS, and was a founding member of the recycling club.  She enjoyed her work with the Albuquerque Open Spaces Park Services.

Lindsay led an active lifestyle and enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, camping and kayaking.  Additionally, Lindsay had a keen interest in archeology and especially enjoyed archeological digs. As an animal lover, she was the first call for friends in need of care for stray and rescued animals.  Additionally, she enjoyed the arts, comic books, and time spent with her family and friends.  

Lindsay was preceded in death by her father, Ed Gillenwater. Survivors include her mother, Patricia Gillenwater, of Oxford; her brother, Edward “Ed” Gillenwater, III, of Longmont, Colo.; her grandmother, Margaret Gillenwater, of Knoxville, Tenn.; aunts and uncles, Bob and Gloria Gillenwater, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Debra Gillenwater and John  Sneed, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Glenda and Glenn Hampton of Millboro, Va.; five cousins and her pets, Frank and Cheese.
