Abbeville residents will cast their votes in a new location beginning in 2020.

During Monday’s Lafayette County Board of Supervisors meeting, the relocation of the voting precinct in Abbeville from its Town Hall location to the Springfield M.B. Church was approved.

The item was brought up by District 3 supervisor David Rikard, who represents Abbeville. The need for the change was due to the town “outgrowing” the Town Hall location, according to Rikard.

Not all elections affecting Abbeville will be moved to the church, which is located at 62 County Road 106. Abbeville Town Hall will still hold its municipality elections, including the mayor and aldermen races. All other local elections, such as supervisors, will take place at the church.

Statewide and national elections will also be held at the church.

The next election Abbeville residents will take part in is the upcoming Mississippi presidential primary, which takes place on March 10, 2020.
