Over the past few years, the town of Taylor has grown with the arrival of several new businesses, and a new advocacy group wants to capitalize on that momentum.

Earlier this week a pro-business group, calling itself “Discover Taylor,” was announced.

“There is a lot more going on in Taylor than most people realize,” group member Campbell McCool said. “So, a group of business owners in the Taylor area decided that together we could make more noise than any of us could individually. It is only four miles from the Oxford city limits to the Taylor city limits, and there are some pretty cool things going on in the Taylor area.”

McCool, who is the Plein Air developer, is a spokesman for the new group.

The intent of “Discover Taylor” is to inform people of the businesses that already reside in the town, as well as provide reasons new businesses should consider Taylor an option for their location.

More than 15 businesses already call Taylor home, and most of them are owner-operated. Initial members of “Discover Taylor” are Taylor Grocery, Paragon Bank, Old Taylor Antiques, The Taylor Inn, Wonderbird Spirits, Niett Metals, Frameblender Films, Grit, A&N Catering, Plein Air, Lost Dog Coffee, Oxford Psychological at Plein Air, Bill Taylor C.P.A., Darby Optometry, Falkner Farms and Keith Stewart Pottery.

Over the course the coming months Discover Taylor will be highlighting individual members of the group, announcing group events and communicating facts about the Taylor area that are not commonly known.

“I think people will be surprised when they realize not only how many businesses are located in Taylor, but also the range and diversity of the types of businesses here,” McCool said. “Taylor is so well-suited for business growth. Taylor’s got fiber to the premises, which is critical for any business. Taylor has got great infrastructure. All the infrastructure is already here for whatever kind of business would want to come here.”
