Obituary – Wanda Ann Reid

Published 5:02 pm Friday, December 27, 2019

Wanda Ann Reid, age 80, entered Heaven on December 25th, 2019, in Tulsa with family.  Wanda was born to Ed and Loraine Reid in Pittsboro, MS on April 25th, 1939.  Wanda graduated from Bruce High School in Bruce, Mississippi.  She also attended University of Mississippi where she was a part of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and earned her degree in education.  Wanda was a die-hard Rebel fan growing up and remained so her entire life.

After graduating, Wanda taught school for over 30 years. She taught in several areas of education, including that of special needs children.  One of Wanda’s proudest moments was when she earned Teacher of the Year at Lafayette Elementary in Oxford, Mississippi. In Oxford, Wanda retired from teaching and began a career as a business woman.

Throughout her career as a business woman, Wanda also served on the Downtown Council and Chamber of Commerce.  In the early 1980’s she bought a building on The Square where she owned and operated several businesses. However, her pride and joy was her framing business, The Frame Up, a business she loved and operated for many years.  Wanda could be seen daily, sitting out in front of The Frame Up, where she would greet and talk to everyone who would pass by. Wanda seemed to know everyone in Oxford and in 2013 she was, unofficially, named Queen of The Square.  This was an honor she laughed about but also cherished, for she lived in Oxford for over 50 years and loved it with all her heart.
