Oxford’s Indoor Yard Sale returns this weekend

After celebrating a milestone last year, one of Oxford’s favorite wintertime events is returning this weekend.

The 11th annual Indoor Yard Sale will take place on Saturday inside the Oxford Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring around 40 booths that will have an array of items.

Lacking events during the month of January, the conference center decided to come up with their own, and in 2009 the yard sale held its inaugural weekend. Each year, there has been growth in attendance numbers and organizers are expecting the same to occur in 2020.

“Everybody loves a good bargain and this event provides that, as well as a chance for people to clean out their closets and get rid of some things they no longer need,” said Oxford Conference Center event manager Micah Quinn. “Last year, we had over 1,000 people come through the doors.”

There will be items available for nearly anyone that attends. A vinyl record booth will return, featuring a selection of thousands of records, and one booth will have around 400 comic books from the mid-1990s.

Once the yard sale concludes on Saturday, vendors who still have items that went unsold do not have to pack them up and take them home if they do not want to. Any unsold items are donated to AMVETS, a national service foundation that provides support to military veterans through various programs and services.

“Even if you don’t come looking for something specific, it’s hard to leave empty-handed,” said Oxford Conference Center director Hayden Guest. “Last year, I walked away with a vintage alabaster lamp that I bought for $5.”

With the threat of severe weather coming to most of Mississippi Friday night into Saturday, organizers said the yard sale will still go on as planned, rain or shine, but ask attendees to be weather aware before heading to the event.

Admission is $2 for adults, and children under the age of 12 are admitted for free. The Oxford Conference Center is located at 102 Ed Perry Boulevard off of Sisk Avenue.
