A threat written on the wall of a bathroom stall at Lafayette High School is being monitored by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a release from the sheriff’s department, the threat was first reported by the Lafayette County School District on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The text of the threat referenced some sort of attack planned for Thursday, Feb. 13.

According to Lafayette school superintendent Dr. Adam Pugh, a student discovered the written threat and took a photo of it. The student then showed the photo to LHS principal Dr. Glenn Kitchens. The two spoke about the potential threat, and decided to alert the sheriff’s department.

“I do not believe it’s anything credible,” Pugh told the EAGLE on Tuesday night. “I don’t know how long ago it was written, but we are taking every precaution.”

Pugh also stated they did not receive any kind of threat via phone or email to corroborate the threat written on the bathroom stall.

The release from the sheriff’s department did not specify the nature of the threatened attack. However, the sheriff’s department did state that there would be increased law enforcement presence on campus.

”The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department takes all threats serious and have already been in contact with local and federal authorities and will investigate this incident to the fullest,” the release said. “There will be an increase in law enforcement presence over the next couple of days in and around the Lafayette County Schools as a precautionary measure. We want every parent and child to know that we are there to keep them safe.”

Those with information regarding the school threat are asked to contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department Investigation Division at 662-234-6421.
