The City of Oxford recently provided updates to a couple projects, which will impact traffic during spring break.

Gertrude Ford Boulevard will be milled and repaved this week, weather permitting. The project is expected to take all week, with the completion date scheduled for March 13. There will be flagmen present, and traffic will be reduced to one lane during the project. The roundabout at Old Taylor Road and Gertrude Ford Boulevard is included in the construction.

While traffic will be delayed on one side of town, it will resume its normal patterns on the south side of the Downtown Square. The City announced on Friday that traffic patterns will resume as normal on South Lamar Boulevard and Harrison Avenue.

The southbound lane and the west sidewalk on South Lamar had been closed since Feb. 26 after city officials declared the building at 208 South Lamar was not structurally sound. The building was closed off, traffic was pushed east on South Lamar and demolition of the structure began on March 4.

“The City received a stamped letter from structural engineer Chad Fowler this afternoon stating that demolition has been completed to a point that made it safe for all normal traffic to resume,” a tweet from the City of Oxford’s official account read.

The complete demolition project of the building is scheduled to conclude on March 15.
