MSDH reports 89 new COVID-19 cases; Lafayette County with 14

Mississippi’s number of COVID-19 cases continued to rise on Sunday, while the daily number dropped from Saturday’s total.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 89 new presumptive cases in the state and two new deaths on Monday. The numbers were totaled as of 6 p.m. on Sunday. The new numbers bring the statewide number of cases to 847 and number of deaths to 16.

Lafayette County was one of the those to report a new case on Monday, bringing its total to 14. The county reported three new cases since Friday.

Mississippi reported eight new deaths since Friday. Counties with reported deaths are: Amite, DeSoto, Hancock, Harrison, Holmes, Lee, LeFlore, Perry, Rankin, Sunflower, Tippah, Tunica, Webster and Wilkinson. Webster and Tippah have reported two deaths due to COVID-19.

Of the 847 reported cases, 195 of them have been hospitalized (32 percent) according to MSDH. The 60 to 69 age group has the most hospitalized with 60. The 70-79 age group has 43 hospitalized, 50 to 59 age group has 29, 80 to 89 age group has 23, 40 to 49 has 16, 30 to 39 has 13, 90 to 99 has nine. The 18 to 29 and 18 years or younger age group have one each hospitalized.
