Lafayette County reports one new COVID-19 case; MSDH reports 88 new cases, eight deaths statewide

After three days of at least 100 cases reported across Mississippi, the State Department of Health reported a drop in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

MSDH reported 88 new cases and eight deaths as of 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Mississippi’s total number of cases is now at 2,003 and 67 deaths since March 11. Wednesday marked the third straight day with eight deaths reported in Mississippi.

Lafayette County reported one new case, bringing its total to 26 cases and one death. Neighboring counties have a combined 43 cases and two deaths. Panola County has 19 cases and one death; Pontotoc has 13 cases and 1 death and Yalobusha County has reported 11 cases.

Hinds County has reported the most cases in Mississippi with 178, along with one death and two Long-Term Care (LTC) facility outbreaks. DeSoto County has reported 144 cases and one death.

MSDH has begun reporting more data, including the number of deaths associated with underlying condition. The number of Mississippians with a cardiovascular disease who have died from COVID-19 is at 33, while 28 Mississippians who were diagnosed with diabetes have died from the virus.
