There will be one less Regions bank in Oxford by this summer.

The Alabama-based banking company sent a letter to its customers announcing they will be closing the Courthouse Square Branch, effective at 2 p.m. on July 10.

The branch will merge with the new Jackson Avenue Branch, which is slated to open on July 13.

“At Regions, we are continually evaluating our banking network to be sure we invest in our resources where customers use them most,” a letter from Michael Pardue, consumer banking executive for Regions read. “As a part of that, we have decided to combine the Oxford Main Court House Square Branch with our new Oxford Jackson Avenue Branch. The new Jackson Avenue Branch is being built to better meet your banking needs.”

Regions’ Jackson Avenue Branch is moving into the former Applebee’s building at 1931 West Jackson Ave.

Customers who rent a safe deposit box at the Square location must make an appointment to visit the branch by July 3 with both of their keys to remove the contents of their box. They may transfer their items to a new box at any other Regions branch, or can retain the contents in their possession until the Jackson Avenue Branch opens in July.  The new Jackson Avenue Branch will have self-service safe deposit boxes.

If someone does not remove the contents of their safe deposit box at the Square location, Regions — along with at least two officials present — will terminate the box lease, drill the lock open and transfer any items remaining in the box to their headquarters in Birmingham, Ala., according Pardue’s letter.

Regions owns the building the Courthouse Square Branch is located in next to Square Books.
