Mrs. Betty Gooch, 79, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, in Oxford. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Browning Cemetery, CR 313, Oxford, MS. Bro. Larry Wicker will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Betty was a faithful follower of Christ who loved teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir with her church family at Woodland Hills Baptist church. One of her greatest blessings was singing gospel songs for nursing homes and veteran hospitals. One of her last requests was that anyone reading this who does not know Jesus would accept him now.
Mrs. Betty’s second priority was her family. She was a devoted wife to Harris Gooch and a loving mother to her children. She talked to Sissy every day, and she left instructions for her family to take care of each other. Her biggest concern was getting well to take care of Harris. She especially loved hosting family reunions and planning for Christmas holiday celebrations with her family. Her grandchildren will miss her banana pudding.
Mrs. Betty also had a special love for animals. She especially loved horses and her English bulldogs, “Gooches Pooches.”
Mrs. Betty is survived by her husband, Harris Gooch; her children, Gary Glenn (Deby) Gooch, Larry Lynn (Susan) Gooch; Nina Elizabeth (Ed) Neilson; Harris Wayne (Liz) Gooch, and Michael Todd (Lori) Gooch; her brother Edward (Jackie) Hollowell; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nina Hollowell and a sister, Nancy Pearl Brewer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude (262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105).
