9 Lives announces annual Spay Day with a low cost

Oxford’s 9 Lives Cat Rescue Group has announced their annual SPAY DAY for cats on Sunday, February 20.

This includes community cats, also called feral cats, which are self-reliant animals who are totally comfortable outside with no need for human companionship. To bring awareness to the very important issue of the homeless pet population in Oxford and Lafayette County, a limited number of discounted cat spay surgeries are offered.

For the low cost of $45 per animal, 9 Lives will help the community members afford to spay and neuter surgeries for their animals. A $10 non-refundable deposit per animal required at booking to reserve your appointment. The $10 deposit will count towards the $45 fee per animal due on SPAY DAY.

On the day of surgery the animal will receive a free rabies vaccination if no veterinary record showing proof of current vaccination is presented. The online form can be found here http://www.ninelivescatrescue.com/2022/01/spay-day.html.

“We are planning on getting 50 animals on SPAY DAY. Some people may not be able to even afford this low price,” said President Natascha Techen. “You can help them by making a donation.”

During 2021, 9 Lives helped to provide more than 323 low cost spay/neuter surgeries of cats and dogs leading to a lower intake for local animal rescue groups and shelters. The upcoming “Kitten Season” is about to start again around March.

“It is a heavy burden on us, you can help to make a difference,” said Techen. “ Getting cats spayed/neutered is the most effective and humane way to decrease the number of homeless animals in our community.”

For every $500 donation, the center can knock off $10 of each surgery or provide 10 free surgeries. Everyone who donates $1,000 or more will get a 5×7 framed photo on the cat tribute wall. If anyone wants to sponsor the whole SPAY DAY surgeries, they will receive a 10×8 framed picture on the tribute wall.

“Come-on, please help our community to make a dent in the unwanted production of cat litters,” said Techen.
