Ole Miss football player injured in drive-by shooting in Omaha

Ole Miss football wide receiver Andrew “Drew” Burnett was shot in a drive-by shooting in Omaha, Nebraska early Monday morning following a College World Series game.

The Omaha 911 Dispatch received a report at approximately 1:14 a.m. Monday that a 19-year-old man had been shot near the corner of 12th and Cass Street.

According to Burnett’s family, Burnett was walking back to their hotel with his brother and Ole Miss senior Scott Burnett when multiple shots rang out.

According to witness reports, the gunshots came from a passing pickup truck.

Burnett, an Ole Miss freshman from Memphis, Tennessee, was shot in the leg as a result and was transported to Nebraska Medical Center. Burnett was soon released to the care of his family and is expected to make a full recovery. 

Burnett is currently back home in Memphis.
